We are 4 keen adventure racers, brought together initially by Nicola Wiseman, from the four corners of the world. Our preparation for this event has spread us as far apart as Sweden, America and Dubai, and we’re all coming together for the first time in Keswick this weekend.
The team name 'It's all about the girl' was dreamt up by our original female member, Nicola Wiseman, who unfortunately broke her ankle during a training weekend and has now taken up the desk position of social captain and managing our fan mail. We chose to keep the name as it is, so now it's all about Imi – Imogen Verret, our Army Major, who joined us while out in the US and who, this year, paddled the Devizes to Westminster race for a warm up and finished 2nd in her class. Imi has raced for the army in Triathlon and is not bad at whizzing round on her mountain bike, clocking up 24 hours non stop at a Meyhem. This is going to be Imi's first multi day Adventure Race and she can’t wait to show us what she’s made of.
Jon Ellis joins us from Scotland and works in something nuclear, eating doughnuts and pressing buttons. Jon is sponsoring the team with the 24 glowing sticks the team needs for night power. Jon is an experienced multiday Adventure racer, having raced in the World Championships in Scotland and Spain. He is also a keen orienteer, so he will be getting his head into the maps and planning strategy to give us an enjoyable tour of the Lake District during this race.
Joe Dinwiddie is our young whippersnapper at only 23 years old. He is a keen skier and has been over training in the beautiful mountains of Sweden in preparation for this event. Joe will be team motivator during those dark nights with his never ending medley of ABBA songs!
Finally there is me, Adam Marcinowicz, with a mascot named Zippy as the team captain. I love Adventure Racing as it brings together all my interests in the outdoors and enables me to meet like minded people who share this passion with me. I have been an Outdoor Instructor for 5 years based in my little pimped out white Transporter, freelancing all over the Lakes, which I am sure will prove useful at some point during this race. This will be my last UK race for a while as I’m back off instructing in Dubai again for 8 months straight after we finish, so will miss you all. I really enjoy pushing the limits of endurance that Adventure Racing has to offer. Having raced in the World Championships in Portugal, I enjoy the longer multiday team events.
As a team, we are well prepared to fulfil our potential and complete the challenge of the adidas Terrex that lies ahead. We are looking forward to all the on course banter when we see the other teams en route.
