So our team is made up of triathletes who can swim, bike and run, normally swim with a wetsuit, bike with skinny tyres and run on tarmac – oh and we are very good at following big yellow arrows, although that can sometimes be a challenge. We have all lost our virginity to an Ironman distance and just a few weeks ago a number of the team completed the infamous Alpe d’Huez triathlon, Steve passed on the following advice to anyone training for this race

Nothing you do in training in this country can prepare you for the sheer length and severity of the climbs, or running at altitude. But if you are thinking of entering this race my advice to you would be to fill your panniers with concrete, let your tyres down and go to the Horseshoe pass for hill rep training. And for the run, put a plastic bag over your head and drag a tractor tyre behind you in Delamere Forest.

Needless to say hindsight is a great thing and non of us have taken his advice although if we had we may be feeling a little more confident!

What possessed us…… we were very fortunate to get support from Scholl Footcare, www.scholl.com and we will be trying out every product they supply to see how quickly they can fix our feet and keep us moving, although I am not sure it's our feet that will be giving in at the end. Our orienteering skills are OK on a bright sunny day and none of us have competed in anything like this before. However, we all have the same philosophy – life is about new experiences and enjoying ourselves. I’m sure we will have a lot of fun and we will still be friends at the end.

Just to add if you see a team doing a lot of sleeping and eating – that will be us so please don’t wake us up, we will be doing some quality recovering.

Hope all you 'kiddies' have as much fun as we are going to have – good luck!
