adidas TERREX swift | 2nd to 4th June 2012

To fill the gap between the Adidias Terrex Coast to Coast and the Sting in Stirling events, Open Adventure introduces the adidas TERREX swift, a two day expedition style event for teams of 4.

This one is ideal for racers planning to make their first foray into non-stop expedition style racing or as part of your training plan for something a little longer like the Sting in Stirling.

The area we are looking at to host the race is particularly suited to this style of event being challenging, yet achievable for first timers.

There'll be the usual mix of trekking, mountain biking and paddling plus that little extra spice that Open Adventure is renowned for.

The event will run over the Bank Holiday weekend in June 2012, so there will be plenty of time to complete the event and soak up the atmosphere before heading back to reality.

Entries for this event will open on the 1st September 2011. The exact price is still to be decided, however there will be a 10% discount for all entries prior to 1st November.

STING in STIRLING | 18th to 25th August 2012

STING in STIRLING | 18th to 25th August 2012 / Photo © Destination360Race background - When London won the 2012 Olympic bid two of the UK's leading adventure race organisers, Nick Gracie and James Thurlow both got the idea to create a large expedition style Adventure Race in the UK to take place post the Olympics. 'The whole of the UK will be glued to the Olympics in the summer of 2012 and we want to give all those adventure athletes and adventure enthusiasts out there an athletic goal of their own for 2012.

After months of deliberation on the perfect location for the event James and Nick settled on Stirling in Scotland to be the host event city. Stirling is at the pinnacle of GB sport and is the home of many Scottish Sports. The Sporting facilities in Stirling are incredible as well as the beautiful natural back drop and two iconic symbols of Scotland, Stirling Castle and The William Wallace Monument.

The east coast of Scotland also has kinder weather and is much dryer than the west coast, there is less of a problem with midges and the area we plan to hold the race in has never been touched by an adventure race before.

The event will be a 4 to 5 day nonstop adventure race for mixed sex teams of 4. Including running / trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, canyoneering and some rope work. The event will run from the 18th to 25th August 2012.

We have designed a race format and course that will allow all the teams to finish. The race will be achievable yet challenging to all levels. We are not planning to design the hardest adventure race ever, in fact quite the opposite; we want it to be fun, interesting and an accessible event. Every night we will provide access to warm and dry shelter, as well as a hot dinner and breakfast. Adventure Racing World Champion - Nick Gracie will be designing the race route alongside Open Adventure's James Thurlow.

We are launching the event very early in order for teams to have ample time to plan and gain the necessary skills and experience to take part in the event. We will be setting out a training plan that will allow you to realise your dreams and complete an expedition style adventure race. As all Olympic athletes will be designing there training for 2012 we too will get you as ready as we can to prepare you for an adventure and achievement of a lifetime.
